Are you curious about who is behind this website? Read more about the City of Barcelona website and its author
This website is created for you by Michal Acler, who as a tourist has Almost 20 years of experience with Barcelona. At this point he decided to share:
- information for visiting this beautiful city
- own guide, maps and descriptions of individual attractions, monuments and museums
- unique tips, tricks and advice on how to get the most out of your stay or vacation in the city
He does all this out of love for this city - completely free and without the need to pay anything or buy a subscription like on other websites.
More about the website in the words of its author
I first visited this beautiful city in 2006 and I absolutely fell for him.
I have been to Barcelona since my first visit returned several times for work, then I already flew there privately. And with each subsequent visit, I fell in love with this city more and more.
And that was just a step to this site because I like to share things that I like…
Although I don't live in Barcelona today, but I still try to spend part of the year here. Not alone now, but with family – I think this city is great for children: the locals love children, there is always something to discover and of course the sea, where you can fool around from morning to night...

Our kids love it Barcelona beaches and playing in the sand...
And when I'm already in Barcelona, I try to get inspiration for my articles, new information, photos or videos, which I will then use here or on Instagram.
My policy or why you should draw from this site and not elsewhere?
- always up-to-date content – one of the things I really rely on is content timeliness. I want you to be able to come back at any time and I have reliable information for you that corresponds to reality. I try to go through all prices, opening hours, links to websites, etc. regularly and find out if anything has changed.
- I write based on my own experience – unlike the competition, I do not copy articles from the Internet, but fly to Barcelona and visit the places in person. If I can't do it right away while writing the article, I will do it at the next possible opportunity and then revise the information in the article.
- I share things as they are – nobody pays me and I don't need to thank anyone with my lyrics. If I don't like something, I say so (or I don't write about it at all).
- complete information for the visit – when I write about a place, monument or attraction, I always try to add complete information that might be useful for your visit: how to get there, how much it costs, when it’s open, tips and tricks, etc. – just so you know they had everything in place and didn't have to go anywhere else.
- always something extra – this is somewhat related to the previous point, but I always wonder what could be done differently, or how to make the information for visiting Barcelona a little more pleasant and accessible. This is precisely why various mini-projects such as for example, a tourist map of Barcelona.

If I miss something in the Czech Republic, it's the sea and beaches.
Site Operations, Costs and Monetization
Until the creation of the website (and subsequently Instagram), its development and subsequent regular updates over the years he has put in hundreds of hours without exaggeration. However, working on this website is a hobby that I pursue in my spare time alongside my own "normal work".
I enjoy building, improving, supplementing and gradually developing the website.
But that's all no guaranteed reward or other compensation.
I do a lot of things on the website myself, but sometimes I need some external programming help, and there are also regular costs associated with its operation, such as site hosting or a translation service.
Fixed costs for website operation are around 20 CZK/year. And on top of that, all programming services. (And, of course, I don't count my time or the money we spend on flights to Barcelona, accommodation, entrance fees, etc. - simply everything that contributes to being able to give you my first-hand impressions and experiences).
It's not enough.
So over the years I've been looking for ways to get some money back from the site to at least cover the costs of running it.
The so-called affiliate cooperation with ticket sellers works most stably for me. My main partners are the Barcelona Tourist Office Barcelona Turisme a ticket platform Tiqets. If you buy tickets to any of the attractions or sights through a link here on the website, I will receive a small commission. But you never pay anything extra for it and the price is the same as if you were buying it directly. Win for both parties.
A few years after launching the site I put together a guide to Barcelona in the form of an ebook, which is the second main way of monetizing this site: if you want to keep the most up-to-date information with you (or simply want to support my activities), by purchasing you will also contribute to the operation of the site.
From time to time I flirt with other ways of monetization, sometimes I try Google ads or other things.
There are no paid articles on the site.
