Not just alone Barcelona offers a large number of sights and places worth seeing. You will also find many interesting places in its immediate vicinity. 

City of Badalona

Badalona is the second largest city in the Barcelona area, which is about half an hour away. As a tourist you can see here beautiful beaches, historic buildings, such as the Church of Santa Maria, and also some from local museums, such as the Badalona Museum. You can also visit the local market where you can taste local food and buy souvenirs.

Personally, I recommend mainly the beaches - that's great if you don't want to squeeze yourself beaches in the city.

Mountains Montserrat

Mountains Montserrat, an original creation of Mother Nature, is located about fifty kilometers northwest of Barcelona. It forms the original panorama of the massif rounded rocks of limestone origin. Their unusual silhouette, reminiscent of some kind of round thick towers, gives the place an almost fairy-tale atmosphere.

It is located in the mountains Benedictine monastery with cathedral representing a pilgrimage site of great importance. At the same time, the place is characterized by high tourist traffic. We find in the cathedral the statue of the Black Madonna with the Baby Jesus from the 12th century, made of wood. This attribute of the cathedral is sought after by pilgrims from all over the world.

The city of Girona

Gerona (Spanish) whether Girona (Catalan) is one of the largest cities Catalonia and also the capital of the province of the same name. The city is often referred to by a poetic name "gateway to the Spanish coast". For most tourists, however, it is just a dot on the map that they pass by on their way to the Costa Brava or Barcelona. However, that is a great pity. This a typically Catalan city because it also has a lot to offer tourists.

In Girona, you can admire the houses built in the typical Catalan style and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the seaside town. Girona boasts a unique historic center with many sights. It is the great pride of the city gothic cathedral of st. Marie. It is peculiar in that it has only one nave, as opposed to three, which are usual for such structures. This is where its originality lies. The cathedral contains elements of the Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque styles. When walking through the city, don't miss the streets of the Jewish quarter and the city walls dating back to ancient Rome.

To Girona too some low-cost airlines fly, so be careful not to accidentally fly there instead Barcelona's main airport.

If you like surrealist master Salvador Dali, or art in general, head to the town of Figueres. It is here that Dalí has ​​a huge museum full of his works. The journey from Barcelona to Figueres takes about an hour and can be a nice half-day or day trip.

Costa Brava

Coast Costa Brava no need to introduce. Its sandy beaches washed by the warm sea together with the sunny atmosphere and typical Mediterranean nature attract tourists from all over Europe. Translated, Costa Brava means wild (or also rocky) coast. For you it can mean a beautiful vacation in one of the most popular locations near the Mediterranean Sea.

Cities on the Costa Brava are from Barcelona easily accessible by train or bus.

Costa Brava offers accommodation of all price categories, from family guesthouses to luxury hotels and services of the appropriate quality. There are many resorts to choose from as your holiday destination.

I definitely recommend living to young people Lloret de Mar, the town that never sleeps. The city is full of bars, discotheques (often with three or more dance stages), clubs, restaurants and casinos. As there is a lot of competition, a night out at the club will not be as expensive as you might expect. You can relax on the local beach. Unfortunately, the sea is not exactly a model of cleanliness.

The opposite is noticeably calmer Malgrat de Mar, suitable as a holiday destination for families with children and for everyone who wants to relax, laze around or practice water sports. Undoubtedly, the town is an absolute classic among Costa Brava resorts Callela. It is located about half an hour by train from Barcelona and offers kilometers of beaches with fine sand, dance clubs, discos and many other attractions.

Costa Dorada

While the Costa Brava occupies the coast to the north of Barcelona, ​​in the case of the Costa Dorada it is to the south. Here you will find a lot of nice beach towns and destinations as needed Castelldefels, Sitges or Tarragona. I will go into more detail about them in one of the future articles.
