What is the best taxi app in Barcelona?

If you want pro moving around Barcelona using taxis, it is worth downloading one of the mobile applications. They will make it easier for you to order a taxi service, so you won't have to wave at yellow and black vehicles on the street.

Which Barcelona taxi mobile app to choose?

How do taxi apps work? 

Most taxi apps work on the same principle: after downloading the app and creating an account, you enter where you want to go from and where you want to go. Subsequently, the application will show you the available taxi vehicles in the vicinity, the arrival time and also their price. If you like one of the offers, you can confirm the price and the taxi will be ordered. While waiting, you can track exactly where the taxi is located. 

What Barcelona taxi mobile apps to download? 

From my experience I recommend two applications for ordering taxi services: FreeNow (available for iOS a Android) to Cabify (available for iOS a Android). You can download both to your phone for free.

Both work on the principle described above and are great for ordering a taxi in Barcelona.

FreeNow usually offers a wider range of services, including classic taxis and private drivers. On the other hand, Cabify focuses more on private cars and is thus much closer to classic ride sharing applications like Uber.

As for the user experience, both apps are easy to use, even if you have no experience with similar applications at all: you will get the hang of them very quickly and ordering a car will be a piece of cake for you. 

Prices may vary depending on time of day, demand and other factors, so it's always a good idea to compare the prices of both apps for your particular direction if your goal is to get the lowest possible price.

In general I find FreeNow works a bit better, especially when it comes to the number of canceled rides. With Cabify, it often happens that you have a ride confirmed, the driver goes on the road, and then you receive a notification that the ride has been canceled by him, which can be quite annoying. As I say, try both and see which suits you better.

The price you pay as a customer of the taxi service is based on the official rate set by the city. 

  • Entry rate: €2,55
  • Price per 1 km: €1,23 (€1,51 at night)
  • Standing and waiting: €24,68 per hour
