Tickets to the Picasso Museum in Barcelona – where to buy them and how much? (my experience)

Are you planning to visit one of the most important artistic places in Barcelona? Picasso Museum is one of the most visited art institutions in the city, which is why it is important to know all ticket purchase options and tips on how to save time and money.

Where to buy tickets to the Picasso Museum?

You can buy directly on site or online. If you buy at the cash register, be patient, because in the season you can wait at the entrance for half an hour or more. This is also why I always recommend buying online.

Buying tickets online (recommended)

Official museum website offers the most convenient way to purchase tickets, see booking websiteWhen purchasing online:

• You select a specific date and time slot for your visit
• You will avoid queues at the ticket office (saving 30-60 minutes in high season)
• You can print the ticket or save it on your phone as a QR code.

You must book tickets online at least 1 hour before the scheduled visitI recommend making a reservation a few days in advance, especially in the summer months when time slots are often sold out.

How to visit the Picasso Museum for free? 

The museum offers free admission without payment on these dates:

• Every first Sunday of the month (all day)
• Every Thursday from 16:00 PM – 19:00 PM (October - April),
• Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday 19:00 – 21:00 (April - October)
• January 4 and 5, February 12 (Festival of St. Eulalia), May 18 (International Museum Day)
• September 24 (La Mercè Festival). On these days, tours are free all day. 

Due to high demand it is necessary to book a ticket in advance on the museum website. 

Tickets for a given week are available from Monday 10:00.

Also, be aware that the museum can be extremely crowded on free admission days.

Combined tickets and tourist cards

An interesting option for gaining entry to the Picasso Museum in Barcelona is to purchase combined tickets or some of tourist cards:

• Barcelona Card – The official city card offers 20% discount on admission to the Picasso Museum, plus free entry to many other museums and unlimited public transport. Available for 3, 4 or 5 days.
• Articket Barcelona – This cultural pass includes entry to 6 of Barcelona’s main art museums, including the Picasso Museum. The card promises to save you up to 45% compared to buying individual tickets.
• Barcelona Pass – the card includes more than 20 attractions including the Picasso Museum. Suitable for intensive city exploration over 2-3 days. 

Practical tips for booking tickets

And now some of my practical tips that will help you clarify the date of your visit when purchasing a ticket: 

• Book online: The most effective way to avoid queues, which can mean waiting for tens of minutes during the season. 
• Visit the museum early in the morning: Ideally right after opening at 9:00, the worst time to visit is between 11:00 and 15:00, as this is when organized tours and groups appear.
• Avoid weekends: Tuesday to Thursday are usually the least busy days, so try to plan your visit on one of these days. Thursday only if there is no free admission, see above.
