Information for people with disabilities traveling to Barcelona

This page is under construction and in the future should contain comprehensive information for all disabled people wishing to visit Barcelona - if you have information, advice or tips that could be useful for others, please  email them to me. 

Transport info

  • It is possible to order a wheelchair accessible taxi
  • All buses have ramps and if you ask the driver, he will prepare one for you.
  • Wheelchair passengers are also available tourist buses; you can reach the lower floor in a wheelchair, but the upper floor will be inaccessible due to stairs
  • The opportunity to travel for free on public transport applies only to local residents + for an accompanying person (info); tourists must purchase standard public transport ticket. 

Accommodations

  • A lot of accommodation facilities in Barcelona do not have lifts, this mainly applies to the Old Town or any older buildings. More in the overview of city districts. 
  • Most modern booking systems like Booking can take this into account in the search.

Entrances to monuments

  • If you have any kind of disability or are traveling with someone who does to Barcelona, I recommend always researching the information about entry to individual monuments in detail.. 
  • Entrances to monuments are sometimes adapted for people with disabilities, visiting some monuments is not advisable or at least recommended (e.g. due to stairs and lack of elevators). 
  • Somewhere you will get a discount on admission (depending on the severity of the disability), somewhere there is completely free admission; you can find this information in the ticket section of the relevant website
  • Free admission often includes an escort.
  • If disabled people have free entry somewhere, you need to have a license, which you prove yourself. According to my information, an international one is not needed, but you can use the one from your country.
