What is PortAventura World and where is it located? 

PortAventura (called Port of Adventure) World is an amusement park that you can find in the south of Catalonia near the town of Salou Tarragona. It has been operating since 1995 and, according to a number of expert evaluations, it is one of the best parks of its kind in Europe (e.g. The Times placed it in second place). This amusement park offers over 100 great attractions for young and old, and I can guarantee you that one day's visit will not seem like enough...

If you have children, this is an obvious choice when traveling to Spain. I definitely recommend everyone else to consider the visit, because if you have more days for your trip to Barcelona (e.g. a week), it would be a shame not to rent a car or take a train and go south of Barcelona, ​​where you will find this unique amusement park.

The Hurakan Condor tower rises high (115 m) above the other attractions, from which on the seat you will be hurtling down almost in free fall at a speed of 115 km/h – definitely not for the faint of heart. El Diablo Tren de la Mina roller coaster takes you on an adventure through the Central American landscape, El Secreto de los Mayas is a large mirror maze and you will also enjoy a great ride on the Yucatán carousel. The biggest place for organizing performances in the whole park is Gran Teatro Maya.

Wild West

As the name suggests, the Far West section – the largest in terms of area in the entire park – it resembles a small town from a movie western. It's a place wooden roller coaster Stampida, the third largest in the entire area. Most of its route is traversed by a pair of trolley sets side by side, in the children's version it is called Tomahawk. In addition to it, you can ride on a water boat the Silver River Flume track a Grand Canyon Rapids raft will transport you to the beauty of American nature.

SesamoAdventure

The smallest visitors will love the world with characters from the popular Sesame series, open up.

Your children will surely love the world of SésamoAventura. It is inspired by the American TV show Sesame Street (Sesame, open up). They won't know what to try before - will they Tami Tami roller coaster, the cute CocoPiloto ride, free fall El Salto de Blas controlled by one's own power or perhaps detective quest Street Mission. And, of course, there are also appearances by Bohoušek, Buk the bird, Kvak the frog and other characters from the TV screen.

As stated in the introduction, I recommend making reservations for the visit at least one whole day and get here as soon as possible. The park opens its gates at 10 am and closes at 18 pm in the low season, and you can stay here until 00 pm in the high season. 

In the park, of course you will find everything you might need during your visit: there are plenty of places to eat (I counted over 20 different restaurants, where there are also those with various intolerances, e.g. to gluten), you will find shops, toilets, rest areas and even hotels – i.e. if you would really like to enjoy the park (honestly: you don't have a chance to see everything the park has to offer in one day...), you can book a night in one of the hotels within the park. If you do, you have unlimited access to it. Considering the price per night starts at €100 / room, it's not a bad deal at all...

How much does it cost and how to get park tickets PortAventura?

The park is open year-round with a break from January to March (Check the exact opening hours here).

You can buy a ticket on the spot at any time during opening hours or online. Basic ticket categories include:

• one-day for €56 – also available including the option of entering two parks, i.e. e.g. PortAventura World + Ferrari Land
• multi-day: two-day for €66 or three-day for €89 – considering the size of the park, it makes a lot of sense...
• per night for €32 - entrance to the park after standard daytime hours - in the evening there are many interesting fire shows
• with transport by train for €53 – ticket together with a return ticket on the AVE high-speed train or the Rodalies regional train (depending on where you are in Spain)

Special tickets are the so-called "overtaking" (Express Pass, skip-the-line) and year-round - Gold Pass (to the park PortAventura), Premium Pass (to the parks PortAventura and Caribe Aquatic Park) and Platinum Pass (to all three parks). In addition, it pays to follow promotions on social networks PortAventura World, which the park often organizes.

How to get to the park PortAventura? 

Car journey

If you go to the park PortAventura if you want to see it by car and you are heading here from Barcelona, ​​prepare for a journey lasting about an hour and a half. The shortest route is approx. 110 km and runs along the C-32 roads (tolls are paid here, see tariffs for more) and AP-7 (road without toll). If you have deep pockets and don't want to pay tolls, you can go all the way to PortAventura by car, take the AP-7 road only. You will extend everything by about 15 kilometers and you will also lose out on sea views, because the first paid route runs along the coast. 

If you don't have your own car in Barcelona, ​​you can rent it for reasonable money at one of the rental companies (my impressions). 

Train journey

Do PortAventura can of course also be reached by public transport. One of the most convenient ways to get here is by train. You can board it directly in the center of Barcelona, ​​at Barcelona-Sants station. Here you need to look for R17 trains that go to Salou station - PortAventura. This train will take you to your destination without changing trains. Alternatively, you can travel to Tarragona (lines R14, R15, R16) and change here to R17 or RT2. 

The first morning train leaves at 6 a.m., but since the park doesn't open until 10 a.m., I recommend the 00:8 a.m. train. He will take you to Salou without a transfer. From the final station, it is about a 30-minute walk to the park.

You can buy either a classic ticket or any of the packs from Rodalies. These include transport and also entrance to the park. The price is around 50 euros for adults, 5 euros cheaper for children.

Bus trip

As part of promotions, you can purchase discounted tickets including bus transportation directly on the park's website. The official carrier is Julià Travel, from whom you can purchase a return ticket together with a ticket for approx. 70 euros (adults)

Otherwise, you can of course travel from Barcelona to Salou, where the park is located, by normal public transport. A company comes here, for example Plana from Passeig de Gràcia (the stop is before Casa Batllo) or from El Prat Airport, from Terminal 1.

What do I recommend for a trip to PortAventura? 

If you don't have your own car in Spain, the best option in my opinion is a one-day trip with Julià Travel. The price includes:
